Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior. Through him we come to know God and to live in friendship and harmony with Him. The teachings and example of Jesus become our guide for living. The Spirit of Christ energizes us in the church and makes us one. Peace and reconciliation with God through Christ, and with each other, is a central part of our message and ministry.
As Mennonite Christians, we are called to union with Christ and love for one another. We are called to mutual encouragement in our mission to love and serve others in Jesus' name. The Bible is our authority for faith and life, especially the teaching and example of Jesus, and we look for his return in glory. We resist evil, including militarism, racism, and social injustice, and seek peace and reconciliation in all relationships.
Durham Mennonite Church is called by God, from its inception in 1969, to be a church for all peoples. "For Christ has broken down the dividing wall of hostility...that he might create in himself one new humanity..." (Eph. 2:14-15). DMC is called to be a congregation where people of various ethnic, national and dis/ability differences can worship, fellowship. and minister together in equality and harmony. Women and men work together in leadership and service to seek to live out Christ's life in East Durham and in the neighborhoods where we live and work.
